Maybe I didn't understand enough of tkinter yet, and there
are more locks needed.

It is tkinter that sets the flag. You need to build a stackless
version of it. Maybe that's it?
In no case Stackless should crash. Do you have other c extensions
that save state on the c stack and pass it across interpreter
invocations?
