Great idea! Maybe I will do Fortran, first.

Besides April, it does in fact make sense
to extract some part of the library and to
make it available as an interpreter-independent
extension package.
I'm just thinking how to do this without
re-writing everything. Maybe I need to supply
some minimal Python object stuff when I don't
have Python.
