Hi Andrew.

Thanks for continuing to look into this and working out a solution.  I
unfortunately had some other fires to put out and was not able to continue
with my own experimentation.

Originally I was trying to avoid OS threads because of the added complexity
and possibility of hard to track down errors they usually entail.  But it
sounds like this is the best solution to prevent any blocking with
Twisted -- something that I certainly want to avoid as well.

I'll see if I can put together my own solution based on your code to date
and will post it for others to look over.
