Hi Folks:
I recently gave two talks on Stackless. My talk
"Adventures in Stackless Python / Twisted" integration
was a bit rough, not as strongly attended as the
Stackless 101. Stackless 101 would have been that much
tougher if we did not have Andrew Dalke's slides.
I received some very positive feedback from the talks.
At this point, I want to thank Richard Tew big time,
Maciej Fijalkowski, Glyph Lefkowitz, and Konrad for
taking time before my talk to fine tune it and ensure
facts were right
Also a shout out to Christopher Armstrong, Itamar, JP
Calderone and the Twisted team in general for being
gracious in answering my questions.
Since there are errors in my slides and the pictures
were originally done in Illustrator (which I could not
correct on the spot), I will post the original with
errata.
Since this is the Web, I will take feedback and write
a second version of "Adventures"
Some of my thoughts....
1) In "Adventures," I tried to do useful examples with
as little code as possible. The point was to focus on
how simple things are.
2) Don't assume that people know basic concepts. I
wanted to give a concrete example, a WS-BPEL server,
people got confused on the basic WS-BPEL concepts.
3) People are VERY INTERESTED in performance. I wasn't
too interested. However I have to fix this in the
slides but running examples and showing results.
4) People want to hear a story concerning Stackless
and multiple CPUs.
5) Finding fellow Stackless and Twisted dudes and
doing dry runs make a huge difference!
6) A hidden strength - Stackless can focus on stuff
like hot swapping.
7) Stackless needs an Open Session talk. I attended
the Twisted Open Session and it was a scream! I don't
think I have ever had so much fun at a programming
talk!!!!
8) Demo code. The folks I consulted, advised against
that. Perhaps this was the only place I should have
re-considered.
~
That said, if anyone in attendance, can give advice,
please do so I can fine tune the next edition of the
slides. I would like to get that out in a week.
Cheers,
Andrew
